The prestigious Spanish daily “El Mundo” recently highlighted that Santo Domingo’s “El Embajador” Royal Hideaway Hotel is considered to be the country’s top luxury facility.
Some US$40 million were invested in the two-year renovation project.
The hotel, with its 60-year history, has been chosen by international designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera and Jean Paul Gaultierto present their respective collections to Dominican society.
The reconstruction phase has been carried out by the Spanish-based Barceló Hotel Group, through its exclusive Royal Hideaway brand.
The Group recently explained that the two-year renovation, as well as the US$40 million investment in the project, “…has produced a modern hotel that incorporates the latest technologies of the 21st century.”
The hotel now features the following accommodations: The Ambassador Level provides its business guests a private reception area, as well as an independent lounge where they can read the daily press, have a quiet breakfast overlooking the Caribbean Sea, or simply enjoy a fresh cup of coffee.
The “El Embajador” hotel is a legend in the Dominican Republic because it has received, in its six decades, top international movie stars, world-renowned writers, musicians and politicians, including Errol Flynn, Rock Hudson and Mexican comedian “Cantinflas,” a legend in all of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The hotel was also featured during “The Godfather II” movie.
Built in 1956, the 278-room “El Embajador”features tennis courts, reception halls that can accommodate up to 600 guests, three restaurants, a gymnasium, spa and a business center.
The “El Embajador” is one of the eight hotels of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts, a worldwide chain of luxury hotels present in 85 destinations.
