Ministry of Tourism Gives Green Light to Construction of 14 New Hotels

During the January-September 2017 period the Ministry of Tourism recently approved 42 new tourism projects through the Tourism Promotion Council (CONFOTUR).

The approximately US$1.8 billion to be invested will add 9,784 new hotel rooms and will generate 14,676 direct and indirect jobs.  Fourteen hotels are included in these projects.

According to the Tourism Barometer January-September, prepared by the Vice Ministry of Tourism, these projects will mainly impact the Punta Cana and nearby regions.  The region received the approval for 28 new projects.

Other provinces that will benefit from these new projects are situated in the north, central and southwest regions.

The data also reveals that 27.3% of the new projects are sponsored by Dominican investors; 27.3% by Spanish capital, 11.8% by Canadian investors, 10% by Panamanian sectors, 9.1% Dominican-Italian-Spanish capital, 7.7% Swiss capital, and the U.S. with 7.2%. Also, Spanish/Dominican capital 6.3% and the remaining 10.7% correspond to Italian, Mexican, Venezuelan and Austrian investors, among others.
