Current hotel occupancy in the D.R. is the highest in the last 15 years. Hotel occupancy has maintained a steady growth since 2010, says the local chapter of Deloitte DR, one of the world’s most important consulting firms.
The data reveals that hotel occupancy is almost 80%. Occupancy in Punta Cana registered at 85%, followed by the La Romana-Bayahibe area (both on the country’s eastern region) with a strong 84%.
The international firm also indicated that the recent growth in occupancy in the country’s eastern region is related to the recovery of the world economy, after the 2007 and 2008 international crisis.
Destinations such as Puerto Plata and Sosua – in the northern region – experienced a serious drop in occupancy levels in 2010 from which it is still recovering from.
However, says the firm, the situation has improved in the last three years.
The northeast region of Samana experienced an important growth period during 2010-2015, said Deloitte. However, during 2016 occupancy rates dropped from 80% to 68%.
