Number of European Tourists Visiting the D.R. Jumps by 21%, and 4.5% for North America

During January thru May of this year the number of tourists visiting the country jumped by 6.7%, compared to the same period in 2016. The number of visitors from North America increased by 4.5%, while the number from Europe jumped by an impressive 21.5%. Overall, the arrival of international visitors reached a historic high during the January thru May period registering 2.7 million tourists.

The entry of an additional 175,934 international tourists contributed to a 7.9 percent overall increase.
The total number of air passengers, including residents and nonresidents during the January – May 2017 period, jumped to 2.9 million passengers. This number presents a 6.9% increase in comparison to the same time period in 2016. During the January-May 2017 the arrival of passengers from North America grew by 4.5%, the equivalent of22,592 additional visitors from the U.S. and 39,244 from Canada.
