5,400 New Hotel Rooms Built in the D.R. During 2016

The Ministry of Tourism recently revealed that last year alone the D.R. built an additional 5,400 new hotel rooms throughout the country.

And, an additional 3,200 rooms were completely refurbished.

Thanks to the new additions, the Dominican Republic now offers approximately 75,000 hotel rooms.

During 2016 a total of 69 tourism projects were approved, with an overall investment of US$1.4 billion.

There are currently seven thousand hotel rooms under construction, and two thousand being refurbished.

In the case of Puerto Plata – the north coast’s most important city – an additional 600 new rooms were built last year, reaching the impressive figure of 12,300 rooms.
