Almost 50,000 tourists visited the sanctuary, situated off the coast of the Bay of Samana, in the country’s northeast region.
The whale watching season opens in January when these graceful marine mammals make their way to the country’s north coast from the northern Atlantic.
The whales remain in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean – specifically off the north coast of the Dominican Republic – until March. During these three months the sanctuary is visited by thousands of national and international visitors.
The beautiful Bay of Samana, included on the list of the world’s most beautiful bays, is the principal destination in the entire Caribbean region to watch the whales in their natural habitat.
