“Easy Voyage” Recommends Top 20 Places to Visit in the D.R.

These positive numbers are in comparison to the same time period in 2015.

Overall, the highest number of tourists visiting the country originated in the United States with an additional 61,000 tourists.

South America registered an increase of 12.6%, representing 37,651 additional visitors in comparison to 2015 numbers. Countries reporting higher number of tourists: Venezuela (25,060); Colombia (13,527); Uruguay (6,502) and Peru (3,798).

The list begins with “Levantado Key,” a beautiful key situated in the very heart of Samana Bay, also included on the list of the world’s most beautiful bays.

Next on the list is the “Los Haitises National Park” which, according to the travel website, is also a must-visit location, situated on the country’s northeast region; the “El Limon” waterfall, and the seaside resort of Bayahibe, an excellent destination for those visitors who do not want to be limited to area resorts.

Also on the list: the Cathedral of Santo Domingo, the oldest in the Americas; the Brugal Rum Factory in Puerto Plata; “Playa Grande,” one of the world’s most beautiful beaches and situated in the country’s northeast region; the Basilica of “La Altagracia,” considered to be the largest cathedral in the Caribbean and the “Los Patos” (The Ducks) beach, “the perfect place to go swimming in paradise.”  The “Los Patos” beach is situated in the country’s southwest region.

Also: the “Fun Fun” Caves, in the northeast town of Hato Mayor; “Rincon Beach,” also included on the list of the world’s most beautiful beaches; Puerto Plata’s Cable Car, the Barcelo Rum Historical Center, in the southeast town of San Pedro de Macoris, and Saona Island, a paradise island situated off the coast of La Romana, also on the southwest region.

Visitors should also consider visiting the Convent of the Dominicans in Santo Domingo; Macao Beach, in Punta Cana, the perfect beach for surfing in the Caribbean; the San Felipe Fortress in Puerto Plata; Cap Cana in Punta Cana; Pedernales Province, situated on the southwest border region with Haiti, where visitors can easily combine trips to beautiful pristine beaches and mountain resorts; the Oviedo Lagoon (near Pedernales), considered one of the Caribbean’s most important ecological reserves.
