Eighty percent of tourists arriving in Puerto Plata, the north coast’s largest city, are from the U.S., and 20% from other European countries, revealed Carnival Cruise Lines.
During the last eight months some 74 cruise ships visited the country’s North Coast with 168,000 tourists coming from different countries.
The ships enter the Maimon Port, inaugurated last October and situated some 15 minutes outside of Puerto Plata. The terminal can accommodate two large cruise ships and can handle some four thousand passengers.
During their visit to the north coast town, 66% of cruise passengers visited different tourist attractions in Puerto Plata and surrounding areas, including historic sites, beaches, the town’s iconic cable car, the seaside boulevard, and the oceanfront tourism communities of Sosua and Cabarete.
