The Dominican Republic has become a hot spot for all sorts of national and international golf tournaments.
In January, the Panama Claro Championship was held in the country, followed in February by the Club Colombia Championship and, in March the country will host 23 tournaments in the next eight months that will end with the best tournament of all: the Web.com Tour Championship.
It will be the first time that the Dominican Republic, and a Caribbean golf course, will participate in this internationally renowned tournament.
The Corales Puntacana Resort & Club will be the venue where dozens of top golfers from all over the world will come together to participate in the tournament.
This is a top honor for the Dominican golf industry, since the agreement signed determines that the Web.com tour will hold its annual event in the Puntacana Resort & Club for three consecutive years.
The first “Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship”will be held between May 30-June 5, 2016. Some 156 golfers will opt for the US$625,000 prize.
The “Corales”Golf Course, designed by Tom Fazio, is built on the seaside cliffs that overlook the beautiful Caribbean Sea, as well as features several natural lakes and six seaside holes. Also, its last three holes, also known as “The Devil’s Elbow,” ends with the impressive 18th hole, which is situated next to the Coral Bay.
The Puntacana Resort & Club is, without a doubt, a truly magnificent golf course, featuring a total of 45 holes.
It also sits next to a three-mile white-sand beach, and is close to the region’s top hotels. It is also just minutes away from Punta Cana’s international airport, one of the busiest in the Caribbean.
The complex is also known for its cosmopolitan flair and very private ambiance, which is why it is a popular destination for political figures, artists and international entrepreneurs.
The tournament is being coordinated by Golflink, the official organizer of the Web.com Tour in Bogota and Cartagena, Colombia. The agreement was signed by the Puntacana Group and the American Association of Golf Professionals. The tournament is part of the PGA Tour.
The Puntacana Resort & Club is an important addition to the growing presence of the PGTA Tour in Latin America, which now incorporates the Web.com and the PGA Tour Latinaomerica championships. Also, the summer Olympics, scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, will also strengthen the region’s standing in the world of golf. All these events will have a positive impact on the Dominican Republic’s golf industry.
The first “Corales Puntacana Resrt & Club Championship” will put the Dominican Republic on the map of the world’s top golf destinations.
