In the country’s eastern mountain region, near the Anamuya River in Punta Cana – one of the Caribbean’s most important tourism destination – there is a natural garden where the friendly squirrel monkeys show off their skills in the surrounding trees by climbing, jumping and hanging from tree branches. In this natural habitat these small primates can interact with the visiting tourists, who are free to feed them with fruit, their favorite treat.
The squirrel monkeys, known for their long tails, short hair, gray coloring and white ears, will come down from the tree branches to sit on the shoulders of a friendly visitor, eat from his/her hands and even pose for a friendly photograph.
The Runners Adventures tour company provides visitors with this tour, known as the “Monkeyland Half Day Safari” tour, which promises visitors a half-day contact with nature.
The tour also includes a visit to a typical Dominican vegetable garden, harvested by Ms. Maria, who will gladly share her stories of local history and traditions. The tour will also include a visit to various plantations, plenty of fresh tropical fruit to enjoy, as well as taste freshly brewed organic coffee and cocoa.
Tour participants will also enjoy gliding through the Caribbean’s longest zipline, with 18 platforms and 12 double cables. The tour is a three hour adrenaline-packed experienced in the nearby local mountains and tropical forests.
The “Zip Lines Adventures” is the only “side by side” cable in the country, certified by the Association for Challenge Course Technology, where visitors can glide through an 800-meter track that runs through the region’s lush vegetation. The nature tour is available to all, where the physical shape of the participant is not an issue.
