Dominican Minister of Tourism Selected as “Tourism Personality 2015″

The Dominican Tourism Press Association (Adompretur) recently elected Minister Francisco Javier Garcia as the sector’s most distinguished personality for 2015.

The Association recognizes the impressive growth of the country’s tourism sector during his Administration.

The award was issued based on the growth of the country’s tourism industry (8.9%, the highest in the Caribbean) including, in 2015, the arrival of 5.5 million tourists.

Other key Dominican tourism entrepreneurs were also distinguished during the awards ceremony: Frank Ranieri, chairman of the Puntacana Group, a pioneer in the country’s tourism development in the eastern region; Michel Gay-Crosier; a small tourism entrepreneur and a staunch defender of the natural resources of Cabarete, on the country’s north coast, considered the windsurf capital of the Caribbean; Carlos Jimenez Ruiz, director general of IFA Villas Bavaro Hotel and Polibio Schiffino, a promoter of tourism development in the southwest town of Barahona and owner of the “Casa Bonita” boutique hotel.
