Punta Cana occupies the fifth slot in the recent listing published by the Travel Leaders Group regarding the top international destinations to visit during 2016. Punta Cana appears ahead of Italy, Florence, Montego Bay and Playa del Carmen (Mexico). The list is compiled annually by this important travel group, through the commentaries published by its international clientele.
Punta Cana was included on this prestigious list because it is one of the 10 Latin American and Caribbean cities that are currently receiving more international visitors. The data is provided by MasterCard’s Global Destination Cities Index (GDCI).
In 2014 the GDCI revealed that Punta Cana was chosen as one of the most visited countries in the Caribbean, and the country where international visitors spent more than in other destinations.
Punta Cana was also included on the list of the top 10 places in the world with the largest number of reservations made by travel agents in the United States, according to the American Society of Travel Agents.
