During the month of August alone the number of international visitors traveling to the D.R. jumped by an impressive 8.9%, in comparison to last year’s numbers.
In total, 396,000 visitors traveled to the Dominican Republic, 32,000 more than the number registered in 2014. Brazil came in third behind the United States and Canada. During January – August of this year the number of visitors traveling to the D.R. reached 3.3 million, a healthy increase of 6.9%. The United States continues to be the main source of tourists to the country.
The number of European tourists grew by 7.9%. The number of European tourists grew by 7.9%, while the South America region jumped by an impressive 19.8%, thanks to incoming tourists from Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina and Colombia.
During the month of August the country’s 10 most important markets were the United States (158,000 tourists); Canada (25,000); Brazil (24,000); Venezuela (15,000); Spain (14,000); England (12,700); Argentina (12,300); Germany (9,000); Colombia (7,000) and Portugal (5,000).
Dominicans and non-resident foreigners visiting during August through the country’s international airports totaled 465,806, an increase of 41,091 passengers over the same time period in 2014, for an overall growth of 9.7%.
The United States continues to be the country’s main source of tourists.
