Punta Cana, on the Dominican Republic’s easternmost region, registered the highest growth of online bookings for the entire Caribbean region through the Expedia Group, one of the world’s largest online travel reservation websites.
During the first semester of this year, reservations more than doubled in comparison to the same time period last year. Punta Cana’s international airport handled approximately two million tourists during the January-July period.
Recent data reveals that the Bahia Principe Hotel Group registered a growth of almost 120% through online reservations during the first semester of this year, compared to the same time period in 2014.
At the same time, tourist arrivals through Punta Cana’s international airport between January and July grew by 8.1%, for an additional 150,212 tourists. In total, some two million tourists traveled through the airport during this time period.
Of the total number of international visitors traveling to the Dominican Republic, 66.8% arrived through the Punta Cana terminal. During 2014, 2.9 million visitors traveled to the country through Punta Cana.
