The “Casas del XVI” boutique hotels, situated in Santo Domingo’s historic Colonial Zone, were included on the list of the best international new hotels by the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler magazine.
These innovative hotels have been built in original XVIth century residences, of great historical value.
Architects and designers have worked with and respected the original design and architecture of the colonial residences.
The boutique hotels were also placed on the magazine’s list of the Best Design Category. Only two other Caribbean and Central American hotels were placed on this list.
Condé Nast Traveler made its final selection based on the opinions of critics and editors who annually visit hundreds of new hotels around the world.
Sixty of these international facilities were chosen in the following eight categories: design, cuisine, price/quality, proximity to beaches, super luxury, remote getaways, urban context and family.
It is the first time a Dominican based hotel is included on the list. The facilities were also recognized for their historical value and their location in the city’s Colonial Zone.
The concept behind “Casas del XVI” was to build boutique hotels in colonial residences that dated back to the 16th century with great historical and architectural value.
The residences have been completely refurbished and currently offer their guests all the amenities of a five-star boutique hotel.
All are situated in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Solara SRL company, a member of the Vicini Consortium, developed the project, which is currently run and operated by Prohotel International and HMS, under the standards of Small Luxury Hotels of The World. For more information: www.casasdelxvi.com.
