Santo Domingo’s Jazz Festival Begins in June in the Colonial Zone

The XVI annual Santo Domingo Jazz Festival will kick off on June 11 at the emblematic “Casa de Teatro,” the Colonial Zone’s most popular cultural center.

The Festival will run until July 30. Participants will include top jazz artists from the Dominican Republic, the U.S. and Europe.

The Festival kicks off on Thursday, June 11, with the National Conservatory’s Big Band orchestra.

On Thursday, June 18th, the Everfall group from Bolivia is scheduled to perform its very special brand of jazz; on June 25th, the Maher Beauroy Trio from France; on Thursday, July 2nd, Dominican jazz musician Pachy Carrasco will perform and, on July 9th, Michelle Marie from the United States.

The program continues on July 16th with the Duo Man from France; on July 23rd, Dominican musician Sandy Gabriel is scheduled to perform and, on July 30th, Dominican artist María del Mar will close the 2015 jazz festival.

The cultural center “Casa de Teatro” is the Jazz Festival organizer. It is one of the oldest Dominican institutions, situated in the capital city’s Colonial Zone. The festival is by far one of the country’s most important musical events.

The festival is sponsored by the country’s largest brewery, the “Cerveceria Nacional Dominicana,” the “Banco de Reservas,” Brugal, Claro, “Asociacion Popular de Ahorros y Prestamos” and the Alliance Francais.

Also, Air Europa, the Spanish Cultural Center, the Embassy of the United States, Holiday Inn, the Listin Diario Communications Group, Radio 97.7 FM, and Impretur.
