The Dominican Olympic Committee and the Dominican Federation of Golf (FEDOGOLF) will sponsor the sixth annual “Casa de Campo Dominican Republic Open 2015,” from June 1-7, 2015. The event will bring together some of the top Dominican and Latin American professional golfers. The venue will be the Teeth of the Dog golf course, one of the world’s top 100 golf courses. The tournament’s prize purse is US$175,000.
The event will be dedicated to the program “Creating Olympic Dreams,” and will bring together 144 professional players from the Dominican Republic and Latin America. This is the fourth annual tournament that is co-sponsored by PGATOUR Latin America, and the sixth since the tournament began in 2010.
FEDOGOLF president Rafael Villalona Calero stressed the importance of the event, because it shows the world the world-class golf facilities found in the Dominican Republic. Other sponsors of the event are the Ministry of Tourism, Banco Popular, and Casa de Campo resort.
Jack Warfield, president of PGATOUR Latin America, said during the announcement of the event that he would like to see a “Dominican player come in to the PGA TOUR through this platform.”
Casa de Campo resort president, Rafael Torres, explained during the press event that “golf tourism is an important component of the Dominican tourism industry, attracting high-end tourists, and supporting this sport shows great advance in the efforts carried out to diversify the local tourism industry.”
