Puerto Plata to Host Cruise Ship Industry Convention

The Convention of the Platinum Members of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association will be held at the “Gran Ventana” Hotel in the north coast city of Puerto Plata on June 24-26, 2015.

Aside from the busy Convention agenda, participants will visit the newly built cruise ship port in the north coast town of Maimon.

A beach party is also scheduled for all participating guests.

Puerto Plata’s Chamber of Commerce and the city’s Tourism Cluster will participate in the annual event.

The Dominican Republic was recently distinguished for the support it continuously provides to the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association.

The region’s newly-built cruise ship port, a major project sponsored by Carnival Corporation building, is scheduled to open in October. The “Amber Cove” port is situated in the Bay of Maimon, just 15 minutes from downtown Puerto Plata.

According to Carnival and Dominican tourism executives, some 400,000 cruise passengers are expected to visit the port, which will be the country’s largest.

In 2014 the country received 435,000 cruise passengers, a three percent increase over 2013 figures.

The opening of the new cruise ship port will coincide with the Discover Puerto Plata Market Place, one of the country’s most important tourism fairs, scheduled from October 7-9 in Puerto Plata. The event is organized by the Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata, and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism. This year’s event will include an Investment Forum.
