Hotels in the La Romana –Bayahibe area, in the country’s eastern region, have joined other national and international hotels who support the International System to Protect the Fundamental Rights of Children and Adolescents (THE CODE), promoted by UNICEF.
The United Nations Fund for Children (UNICEF) recently praised the efforts being carried out by the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES) to mitigate child prostitution in some of the country’s top tourism destinations.
UNICEF signed an agreement with ASONAHORES and the Ministry of Tourism to support the programs currently in operation to protect the life and development of children and adolescents in the country.
Several hotels in the La Romana-Bayahibe region, situated in the country’s eastern region, have signed the code and others are expected to sign in the near future.
The region’s hotel association, along with the La Romana-Bayahibe Tourism Cluster, continues to organize activities to raise awareness among local schools, hotels, taxi driver associations, and tourism-related companies on the importance of being vigilant regarding the welfare of local children.
