Dominican Republic Working to Attract Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) Tourism

During 2014 some 150,000 MICE tourists traveled to the Dominican Republic, mainly from the U.S., Canada, Spain, Puerto Rico, Italy and Germany, all major generators of business travelers. The information was provided by Ms. Magaly Toribio, head of marketing for the Ministry of Tourism.

Ms. Toribio explained that the Ministry participates in the major fairs that are held to promote this important market of the tourism industry.

She also explained that the Ministry has signed agreements with major international organizations working with MICE tourism.

The country is also placing promotion ads in MICE-related publications and media outlets.

The Ministry has participated in the Incentive Works Fair, held in Canada; the MITM EuroMED, in Spain; the IMEX Fair in Frankfurt, Germany; TTG INCONTRI, in Italy; IMEX America, in the United States, and the INWETEX Fair, in Russia, among others.

“This is a good time for us, because through the promotion and the work we have carried out through the country’s Tourism Promotion Offices, we have successfully promoted the Dominican Republic going way beyond the all-inclusive resorts and the beaches. We know because of the high number of groups that are currently traveling to the country,” said Ms. Toribio.
