Dominican Airports Receive Excellent Ratings

The Dominican Republic’s most important international airports have made their way to the list of the best rated Latin American and Caribbean airports.

The Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) was the only Latin American facility included among the finalists for the Routes Americas Marketing Awards.

The Las Americas International Airport received high praise from the Airports Council International (ACI).

Last year the PUJ handled 2.9 million passengers and Santo Domingo’s Las Americas international airport received 1.5 million. In total, the country received 5.6 million travelers through its local international airports.

Punta Cana

Punta Cana’s international airport is the only Latin American facility of its kind included on the list of finalists for the Routes Americas Marketing Awards 2015, considered one of the most prestigious awards in the global aviation industry.

The Routes Americas Marketing Awards recognize the world’s top airports and tourism authorities that provide the best overall marketing services.

The award distinguishes the airport facilities that can demonstrate “effective results and the presentation of data, information and innovative techniques that will contribute to the creation or maintenance of existing routes.”

The nominees and finalists are chosen by airlines and a panel of judges, comprised of prominent members of the regional community responsible for the planning of air networks. All airports nominated are thoroughly reviewed.

Punta Cana’s international airport is a member of the Punta Cana Group, was a finalist in the category of the terminal that handled between four to twenty million passengers in 2014.

The terminal was opened in 1984 as the first private commercial airport in the world to carry out international operations.

In 2014 the airport opened its 33,000 square-meter Terminal B, designed to handle three thousand passengers per hour.

Las Americas International Airport

For a second consecutive year the Las Americas International Airport – situated 20 minutes east from the Dominican capital – was recognized in the Best Improvement category: Latin America-Caribbean 2014, by the Airports Council International (ACI), through the Airport Service Quality program.

In addition, the Las Americas facility remained in the fifth slot of the 17 regional airports that participated in the “Best Airport in Latin America and the Caribbean” category.

The airport’s excellence in customer service places it among the best airport facilities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place April 28, 2015 in Jordan, during the Regional ACI Asia-Pacific Assembly.
