The restaurant, created by world-renowned international chef Martin Berasategui, is situated in the Paradisus Palma Real Hotel, operated by the Spanish Meliá chain, in the country’s Punta Cana region.
According to the Forbes Guide, the restaurant is the country’s top restaurant.
Other local restaurants included in the list of the prestigious Forbes Guide are the Natura Restaurant, situated in the “Natura Cabañas” Hotel in Sosua, on the country’s north coast.
The restaurant was included on the list for its top-rated seafood dishes.
The Guide highly recommends the restaurant’s Shrimp Natura dish, consisting of sauteed shrimp in a creamy curry-rum sauce.
The Guide also recommends The Beach Club by Le Cirque, located in the world famous resort Casa de Campo.
The restaurant is known for its European-style seafood, meats and pasta dishes.
The Gourmand, at the Sivory Hotel in Punta Cana, ranked fourth on the list. The Meson de Bari, in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Section – declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO – came in a very comfortable fifth place.
In 2003 the Passion Restaurant, at the Paradisus Palma Real Hotel, was selected by the Travelers’ Choice Restaurant Awards as the best restaurant in the country and the Caribbean.
It was also ranked tenth in the list of the world’s best restaurants.
The Passion Restaurant by Martin Berasategui opened in 2011, as a partnership between the renowned Spanish chef and the Spanish-based Meliá International chain of hotels.

Martin Berasategui is considered to be one of the best chefs in the world, with six Michelin stars.
Berasategui designed the restaurant exclusively for Paradisus Resorts, the luxury brand of the Meliá Hotels International in the Caribbean, as a way of providing its high-end guests the finest dining experience in the region.
Berasategui is known for the way he has masterfully brought together fresh local ingredients with traditional Basque dishes.
