The world famous Travel & Leisure magazine has included the province of Puerto Plata, in the Dominican Republic’s north coast, as the fourth place to visit (among 50 destinations) during 2015.
One of the main upcoming attractions, says the publication, is the opening of the Aman Hotel, one of Asia’s top luxury brands. Puerto Plata came out ahead of other popular Caribbean destinations such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Cartagena (Colombia) and Playa Del Carmen (Mexico). It also received higher scores than Miami, Orlando, Indonesia, Milan and Las Vegas.
The publication says: “Far from Punta Cana’s beach resorts, the less frequented north coast of the Dominican Republic has remained largely under the radar. But 2015 development projects in Puerto Plata are intended to attract wealthy sun lovers.”
Among the new projects in Puerto Plata, Travel & Leisure mentions the Gansevoort Playa Imbert Hotel, a member of the U.S.-based Gansevoort Hotel Group.
The facility officially opened in December 2014, and is located 15 minutes from Puerto Plata’s international airport.
Another important facility scheduled to open in 2015, in the beautiful Playa Grande area – an hour from the international airport – is the Aman Hotel, a super luxury brand based in Singapore.
This will be the second Aman resort in the Caribbean. The hotel is being built next to a golf course.
Trave & Leisure says that new investments in Puerto Plata are “a promising sign of what’s to come in the circuit luxury.”
