Avianca, Colombia’s national airline, recently announced that it will begin direct flights between Lima, Peru and Punta Cana beginning January 2, 2015. There will be four flights per week on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
The flights are scheduled to depart from the Jorge Chavez International Airport at 10:22 a.m., local time. Flying time will be approximately four hours and seven minutes. Flight departure from Punta Cana will be at 5:14 p.m., local time, arriving at the Peruvian capital at 9:24 p.m.
Flights will be on an Airbus A320, with capacity for 150 passengers. In total, the airline will transport 2,400 visitors per month.
The Colombian airline’s goal by using the Peruvian capital as a regional hub is that it will facilitate connecting flights from other South American cities flying to Punta Cana.
Erika Hundskopf, Avianca’s Sales Manager said: “Punta Cana has become a favorite vacation destination for tourists traveling from Peru and other South American cities.”
“This particular route is also very convenient for travelers who want to take advantage of the weekend or start their holiday vacation at this destination,” said Hundskopf.
Avianca also offers daily flights to Punta Cana and Santo Domingo from Bogota. With its new route to Punta Cana, Avianca will offer 18 weekly flights to the Dominican Republic.
