The team representing the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Adults Only in Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic’s easternmost region, was recently awarded the 2014 Americas Culinary Award, in an event held in the capital city of Santo Domingo.
Members of the winning team were Freddy Medina Ramos, Juan Francisco Ortega and Zacarias Trinidad Polanco. The team complied with the highest standards set by the event judges. The event was held October 30-31 at the Silver Sun Gallery in Santo Domingo.
Presentation of Exotic Dishes
The team presented the following winning culinary treats: “Seafood Kebab Duet with Fennel and Baby Lettuce;” “Corn Cappuccino Froth with Goat Cheese and Norwegian Salmon;” “Smoked Snapper Baked at Low Temperature with Squid Ink on Rice, Saffron Spaghetti and Beer Infusion.” For dessert, the group presented the “Chocolate Trio with Caramel and Berries in Strawberry Sauce.”
The Culinary Cup
The competition was sponsored by the Pan American Forum of Professional Gastronomic Associations. The dishes presented were judged on their overall presentation, texture, taste, fragrance, as well as other requirements.
The three-member teams are divided into two categories: the Junior Category, for those currently participating in culinary training programs, and the Senior Category, for professional chefs.
The Barcelo Bavaro Beach Adults Only Hotel is an all-inclusive, beach front hotel in Punta Cana. The hotel is situated in the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort complex, and features three restaurants and 589 rooms. It currently occupies the 15th position among the 101 Punta Cana hotels, according to the international tourism website TripAdvisor.
