The Links golf magazine features the Dominican Republic on the list of the “Top 25 Islands” where golfers can practice their favorite sport.
The quality of its golf courses placed the Dominican Republic on the list as the number one golf destination in the Caribbean.
The publication states that although the Dominican Republic may not sound like a golf mecca, the country is home to the world-famous Casa de Campo and Punta Cana resorts home to some of the finest golf courses in the Caribbean.
Most of the country’s 26 golf courses have been designed by internationally renowned designers and golf professionals such as Pete Dye, PB Dye, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones, Gary Player, Tom Fazio, Nick Faldo, Nick Price and Greg Norman. More golf courses are currently being built.
The Teeth of the Dog golf course, situated in the Casa de Campo resort, is perhaps one of the country’s most famous courses.
This particular golf appears is currently 50th on the list of the world’s Top 100 courses.
In 2011 it hosted the Dominican Golf Open (DR Open), organized by the Dominican Golf Federation, and international tournaments.
Casa de Campo has been selected on four separate occasions as the “Best Golf Resort in the Caribbean” by the World Travel Awards.
