Key International Leaders Visit the Dominican Republic

The visitors include the Vice President of the United States, the Secretary General of the United Nations and the President of the European Union.

All met with President Danilo Medina during their recent visits to the country.

U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden

During his two-day visit to the Dominican Republic, part of his Latin American tour, Vice President Biden met with Dominican President Medina.

During his stay in the Dominican capital Vice President Biden stayed at the newly remodeled Sheraton Hotel on George Washington Avenue, situated in Santo Domingo’s seaside boulevard.

Ban Ki-moon

The UN Secretary General visited the country accompanied by his wife, Yoo Soon-taek, and other top U.N. officials. After meeting with President Medina the Secretary General also met with top Dominican Congressional leaders.

In Santo Domingo Ban Ki-Moon visited the Colonial Zone, the oldest settlement in the New World and recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1990. During the tour he was accompanied by Minister of Tourism Francisco Javier Garcia.

Herman Van Rompuy

The European Council President met with President Medina and Haitian President Michel Martelliy at the Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana. During their meeting the three leaders discussed issues related to the European Union and its relations with the D.R. and Haiti.

Top Vietnamese Official Delegation Visits the D.R.

Top officials from Vietnam visited Dominican Tourism Minister Francisco Javier García to discuss ways to strengthen tourism in both nations. The delegation was led by Hoang Binh Quan, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
