U.S., German, Brazilian and English Tourists heading tourism growth in the Dominican Republic

Tourists from these four countries head the list of the fastest growing segment of tourists traveling by air to the Dominican Republic.

The data reflects tourism traffic to the country during the first five months of 2014.

These international tourists represent 75% of the 159,000 new tourists that visited the country during January – May period.

During the first five months of 2014 an additional 159,000 tourists visited the country in comparison to the same time period in 2014.

These numbers represent an 8.7% increase over the numbers registered during the same period in 2013.

Overall, this is an impressive number for the Caribbean region and the world average estimated by the World Tourism Organization. In total, some 1.9 million tourists visited the Dominican Republic last year.

An additional 88,866 American tourists were recorded, representing a 13.4% increase.

Additional tourists: Germany, 13,907 (15.3%); Brazil, 8,978 (24.7%) and England reported a 24.6% jump. Other countries that followed: Russia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Ukraine. In total, these 11 markets contributed 154,177 new tourists.

From January to May these four countries registered truly impressive numbers in tourism growth for the Dominican Republic.

The German and Puerto Rican markets also showed strong growth numbers, after years of continuous decline.

The data also indicates that the Dominican Republic is raising eyebrows in Ukraine, as well as in Colombia, Argentina and Chile.
