Punta Cana is an extremely popular destination in Europe and there is an ever-growing interest in local airlines to include this trendy Caribbean destination into their international flight schedules.
Evelop Airlines decided to do just that when it recently launched regular Madrid-Punta Cana flights. The airline sells tickets online.
The news is that Evelop has gone from a popular charter airliner to one that markets regularly scheduled flights through the sale of online tickets.
And, in this new phase Evelop Airlines decided to include Punta Cana in its flight schedule because of its strategic importance in the world of Caribbean tourism.
The new company, a member of the Barceló Group, launched its Punta Cana – Madrid operations on November 30, 2013.
Evelop Airlines operates three Airbus A330 aircraft, with capacity for 388 passengers, for its flights to the Caribbean.
It also operates two medium-sized Airbus A320, with capacity for 180 passengers.
The airline was created to grant the tour operators of the Barceló Travel Group more travel options to the Caribbean, thereby diminishing their dependence on other airlines.
It also provides services to other European markets, such as the Scandinavian market.
Europe is the Dominican Republic’s second most important source of tourists.
In 2013 the number of tourists arriving by air to the Dominican Republic registered at: 1,128,765. During January-May 2014, that number was 538,332.
