Expedia, one of the world’s most important travel websites, recently recognized the efforts carried out by the country’s Ministry of Tourism for its constant efforts to improve the Dominican tourism industry.
Currently, the Dominican Republic is Expedia’s largest Caribbean market.
According to Expedia the efforts carried out by the Ministry have contributed to the increase in the number of hotel-room sales during 2013.
The latest travel figures registered for the Dominican Republic indicate that 4.6 million tourists visited the country by air transportation.
Demetrius Canton, Expedia’s Caribbean Product Manager, presented the award during the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE), one of the country’s most important tourism fairs.
The event was held this past March at the Paradisus Palma Real Hotel in Punta Cana, on the country’s eastern region.
