The Dominican Republic’s tourism industry received eight new hotels during 2013.
The new hotels are a sign of the country’s dynamic tourism industry. In Punta Cana, on the country’s easternmost region, five new hotel facilities opened their doors last year.
In La Romana, home to “Casa de Campo,” one of the Caribbean’s most exclusive resorts, also saw the construction of a brand new facility.
The capital city of Santo Domingo, and the country’s north coast, also built beautiful new hotel facilities.
During 2013 the following hotels opened their doors in the Punta Cana region: the Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa, The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club, the Merengue Punta Cana, the Memories Splash Punta Cana and the Royalton Punta Cana.
* The Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa: This is the first hotel in the country to feature the Breathless Resort & Spa adults-only brand. Managed by AM Resorts, it is an all-inclusive 750 room facility featuring four swimming pools, nine restaurants, a bar and restaurant, spa & fitness center, casino, theater, convention center, business center, sports center, tennis center, gazebo for weddings, relaxation pool, snack bar, disco and other facilities.
* The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club: This facility is part of a strategic alliance between the Punta Cana Group, a pioneer in the development of luxury tourism in Punta Cana, and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. The 200-room and 10-suite hotel features a convention area for 400 guests; wedding facilities, kids club, restaurant, grill, lobby and cigar bar. It is NOT an all-inclusive facility.
* The Merengue Hotel Punta Cana: This hotel is found in Bavaro Beach, features 30 rooms and is not all-inclusive. Other amenities: swimming pool with jacuzzi, bars and wi-fi in all areas and rooms.
* The Blue Diamond Hotels & Resorts now offers two facilities in the Punta Cana region: the 525-room Memories Splash Punta Cana, very family oriented featuring a water park, and the 485-room Royalton Punta Cana, offering families luxury facilities and an adults-only section.
The Luxury Bahia Principe Bouganville Don Pablo Collection Hotel is situated in the “Playa Nueva Romana,” outside the city of La Romana, on the country’s eastern region. The 244-room facility is an all-inclusive, adults-only, facility.
The Weston Suites Hotel is situated on February 27th Avenue, in the very heart of Santo Domingo. The hotel features 94 rooms, a restaurant, bar, gymnasium, meeting rooms and a casino. The facility is a 10-minute walk from two of the city’s most important shopping centers.
The Rivera Blue residence resort, situated in the Playa Dorada resort, in the north coast city of Puerto Plata, features 75 apartments in three three-level buildings. The overall investment in the project was US$30 million.
