Transaero Airlines Announces it will Use an Airbus A380 Aircraft on its Route to Punta Cana in 2015

The fast growing number of Russian tourists visiting the Dominican Republic has motivated the Russian-based Transaero Airlines to use an Airbus A380 on its Moscow – Barcelona and Moscow-Punta Cana routes.  With the purchase of four new A380’s, Transaero will be the first Russian airline to use the Airbus super-jumbo aircraft.

The Transaero A380 Airbus features 652 seats:  12 in Imperial class (private on-board suites), 24 preferential seats that turn into comfortable beds and 616 in economy class.

Transaero executives said that the airline, the second largest in Russia, decided on the purchase of the A380 due to the large number of Russian citizens vacationing in the Dominican Republic and Spain.  In total, Russian tourists currently represent 8% of all international travelers to the Dominican Republic.

During the January-November 2013 period, 164,575 Russians traveled to the Dominican Republic.  In 2012, that number registered 167,700 visitors.

Most recently two new airlines began regular flights to Punta Cana from various Russian cities, another indication that the Dominican Republic has become an important destination for Russian tourists.
