The Dominican North Coast – stretching from Cabarete to Samana – will host the First 100K Caribbean Marathon, to be held from March 18-25. National and international marathoners are expected to participate in the event, sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism. Participants must present medical certificates in order to participate.
The seven-day marathon will be divided into five stages. The first (8k) stage will depart from Sea Horse Ranch in Sosua, the ocean front community on the country’s north coast. The second (17.5k) will leave from Puerto Plata; the third (18k) from the Viva Wyndham Tangerine Hotel in Cabarete, the windsurf capital of the Caribbean, while the fourth and longest (44.5k) will kick off from the Sublime Residence Hotel in Las Terrenas, one of the north coast’s most beautiful beaches. The last 12k stretch will end in Moron Beach, in the north coast province of Samaná, where the awards ceremony will take place followed by a big celebration.
The final marathon scores will be calculated by adding the time recorded in each of the five stages. The timing system will be coordinated by the “Run the World” company, headed by Alberto Rovera.
The tour’s main goal is to provide national and international participants the possibility of enjoying the unique and breathtaking beauty of the Dominican Republic’s north coast. Part of the marathon’s registration fees will be donated to the St. Jude Children’s Foundation, the U.S.-based institution that provides health care facilities to children with cancer, and the Miles for Education Foundation.
