Punta Cana Amongst World’s 100 Most Visited Destinations

Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic’s most important tourism region, is situated in the country’s easternmost section is now one of the world’s most important places visited by international visitors.

The information is provided by the prestigious International firm Euromonitor International. Punta Cana International Airport received 2.5 million visitors in 2013.

Currently, Punta Cana – the country’s most dynamic and visited tourism region – receives more visitors through its international airport than Washington, the French city of Nice, Vancouver, Frankfurt, Egypt, Indonesia and Honolulu.

In order to prepare the list Euromonitor International took into account the arrival of foreign visitors to the country during 2012.

The company revealed that during 2013 the number of tourists visiting the 100 cities on the list grew by 6.6%, registering a 4.2% increase in international travel registered by the World Tourism Organization.

A Golfer’s Paradise

Punta Cana was also selected last year as one of the top golf destinations in the Caribbean and the world, and among the top 25 beach destinations in the Caribbean by the international travel website TripAdvisor.

In 2013 the Punta Cana International Airport received 2.5 million foreign visitors, 63.5% of all international visitors traveling to the Dominican Republic.

This terminal is owned and operated by the Punta Cana Group.

According to Central Bank figures 23.29% of U.S. tourists traveling to the Dominican Republic arrived through this terminal, along with 12.09% of Canadians, 4.39% of Russians, 4.24% of French, and 3.9% of German nationals.
