The Punta Cana tourism region, on the country’s easternmost section, continues to be the preferred Caribbean destination for users of the popular travel website Tripadvisor. Punta Cana is also included in the Travellers Choice 2013 as one of the best golf destinations in the world.
Another tourism plus for the country was the inclusion of the beaches in the Bavaro region, also on the eastern region, and Paradise Island – on the north coast, near Puerto Plata – were included on the list of the “The 25 Best Beaches” in the Caribbean.
For a second consecutive year the Dominican Republic received from the Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) an award as the best “Best Golf Destination in the Caribbean and Latin America.”
The Dominican Republic is the Latin American nation that receives the largest percentage of tourism income in relationship to its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), says a study published in Latinvex, an online information site that publishes data produced by the World Tourism Organization and the International Monetary Fund.
Also, Airports Council International issued an “Airport Service Quality Award” in 2012 to the Las Americas International Airport for the work it carried out last year in modernizing the terminal.
