The Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort complex was recently certified by Green Globe for its environmentally-friendly practices. Green Globe is the global certification for sustainable tourism.
For two years in a row the beach where the Barcelo hotels are situated has maintained a “Blue Flag” certification. It also recently completed an energy-saving program that also accredits it as a green and sustainable resort.
The recently-awarded certification was presented by Guido Bauer, CEO of the Green Globe program, which is represented in the Dominican Republic by Terry Wheat, of Ecoservices Dominicana, a company that supervises the compliance of the established standards.
Green Globe is the global certification for sustainable tourism. To obtain this certificate, the facility must meet 337 indicators, which are adjusted according to regional and local conditions and standards.
