The Laguna Dominicus declared a Blue Flag Beach

This beautiful beach is located in Bayahibe, a once sleepy fishing village in the country’s easternmost region which today has become an important tourism destination.

The Laguna Dominicus Blue Flag certification was recently renewed because the beach has maintained all of the requirements needed to belong to this exclusive club.

The certification is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), an international non-profit organization, and the Institute on Environmental Laws of the Dominican Republic.

The “Blue Flag” seal is awarded to beaches that meet stringent environmental, safety and cleanliness standards.

If a beach displays this flag it means that it is clean, secure and its water quality constantly monitored.

A jury decides what beaches meet the criteria to receive the Blue Flag, after carrying out an exhaustive investigation to determine if it meets the quality standards set by the organizations.

The flag-raising ceremony will be held at the beach on December 5.

With this last addition, the Dominican Republic currently boasts 17 Blue Flag beaches.  To date the country now has the largest number of Blue Flag beaches in the Caribbean.
