The Dominican Republic attracts younger generation of international travelers

The all-inclusive hotels, and the many fun and adventure options offered by the Dominican tourism industry, make the country an attractive destination for the younger international traveler.

So far this year, 47% of travelers visiting the Dominican Republic by air are between the ages of 21-35.

During the first seven months of 2013, 37.2 % of foreign tourists visiting the Dominican Republic fell into this age category.

During the months of January-July 2013 approximately 2.5 million tourists visited the country.  Of this number, 943,000 were young people between the ages of 21 and 35.

If you add the 13-20 age group (10.1 %), an additional 256 000 visitors, the number will surpass the 1.2 million tourists that visited the Dominican Republic.

Other age groups are the following: children up to 12 years of age (5.4%, 36-49 (26.5%), and those over 50 years of age (20.7%).

The numbers registered during the first seven months of 2013 are very similar to this year’s numbers, specifically in the age group between 21-35.

Paradise for the Young

Hotel and tour operators consulted believe that young international travelers are mainly attracted to the all-inclusive resorts, because they provide this age group with fun activities, including water sports, and a varied food menu.

Other attractions, such as adventure tours, attract the 20-40 international age groups.

This group is out to experiment with new trends and prefers to do something different than in previous vacations.

Adolescents also prefer the all-inclusive resorts, especially now that these facilities are providing teen discos and water parks, as well as round-the-clock snack bars.

Gender Preferences

National and international surveys indicate that 93.5% of international visitors are attracted to the Dominican Republic because of the interesting recreation and fun activities provided by the local tourism industry.

Only 3% visited the country for business or conventions.  Also, 49.5 % of these international travelers were female (1.25 million) and 50.5 % males (1.28 million).
