Puntacana Resort receives award for sustainable tourism

The Puntacana Resort & Club, situated in the country’s easternmost region, was recently awarded the top prize during the Adrian Awards as Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination. The award ceremony was held in the New York Marriott Marquis, and was issued for all the efforts being carried out by the resort in favor of maintaining and strengthening the region’s environment, culture and history.

Some 900 representatives of the international tourism industry and advertising agencies participated in the ceremony.

The award was received by Robert Kheel, a member of the Board of the “Grupo Puntacana,” and by Jake Kheel, the president of the “Grupo Punta Cana Ecological Foundation,” a non-profit organization that is spearheads sustainable tourism practices.

The Adrian Awards are issued to industry representatives, including hotels, airlines, cruise lines, car rental companies, credit card companies, among others. The winners are chosen from some 1,200 nominations by industry experts and media representatives.
