The chef of the ”Tortuga Bay” hotel, situated in Punta Cana Resort & Club, on the country’s easternmost region, recently won first place in the “So Amazing Chefs” contest. The contest was recently held in Thailand, where Chef Romain Valicon and his team won the “Best Artistic Team” Award for their preparation of a full course meal in one hour. Chef Valicon competed with colleagues from the United States, Denmark, France, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, the Netherlands and South Africa.
The menu prepared by Chef Valicon included poached egg in Thai soup, with shrimp and lemon brochette; fish biscuit with sea sauce with ginger and red curry, and rice chips, mango gazpacho, pineapple, cilantro, Dragon fruit and green pepper. The competition also included a secret ingredient.
Valicon runs the “Bamboo” restaurant, recently awarded four diamonds in the American Automobile Association (AAA) tourism guide book. He is a member of the Culinary Academy of France and Euro-Toques Organization.
He graduated from the Culinary Arts School of Lyon “Jehanne de France”.
