The Dominican Republic: best golf island destination 2012

The Dominican Republic was recognized as the “Best Golf Island of the Year” and honored with the “Caribbean World Travel & Living Awards 2012” issued by Caribbean World Magazine.

Also recognized was the world-famous Casa de Campo resort, situated in the city of La Romana, on the country’s eastern region.

Casa de Campo was recognized for being the “Best Luxury Development of the Year.”

Currently, the Dominican Republic offers the best golf tourism in the Caribbean. Overall, the country features 25 golf courses, most of them located near some of the Dominican Republic’s best tourism resorts.

Some of the world’s best golf course designers have left their mark on the geography of the Dominican Republic.

They have turned the country into the Caribbean mecca for golf enthusiasts.

Among the world’s top designers that have produced spectacular golf courses in the DR, are Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, P. B. Dye, Gary Player, Tom Fazio, Nick Faldo, Nick Price and Robert Trent Jones.

In total, they have designed 17 of the 25 golf courses in the Dominican Republic.

The country’s top golf courses are the ones situated at the Puntacana Resorts & Club, Casa de Campo, Cap Cana, all major world-famous resorts.

These courses have appeared in prominent international publications.

This exclusive resort boasts more than 1,500 villas and luxury residences, featuring four internationally famous golf courses.
