Program will develop tourism in the Colonial Zone

The Inter-American Development Bank will finance a Development Programme for the Colonial City in Santo Domingo which will focus on improving public spaces such as streets, plazas, underground cabling and monitoring the implementation of thematic tourist routes and the construction of a community center.

The program will also include the restoration of the original colonial wall, built in the sixteenth century, and the refurbishment of colonial buildings.

It will also include a training program on human resources, which will improve the quality of the zone’s tourism offer, the regulation of street vendors and support of local artisans.

Another important aspect of the program will be the refurbishment of historic structures and support to local small businesses working with the tourism sector.

The US$30 million program is run by the Ministry of Tourism.
