The US$200 million facility will be built near the capital city’s financial center.
The hotel will feature two theme restaurants, a spa and gymnasium, swimming pool, terraces, meeting rooms and a hair salon.
The 15-story structure will be built on Winston Churchill Avenue, on a 3,866 square meter lot, in the very heart of one of the Dominican capital’s most fashionable sectors, just walking distance from the headquarters of major banks, shopping centers, luxury boutiques and restaurants.
The hotel is being developed by the Real Hotel & Resort Company, owned by the “Grupo Poma,” a business consortium founded in 1919 and based in El Salvador.
The group currently operates 29 hotels in 10 countries in Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Many of these hotels are operated under the Marriott, Royal Hotel, Quality, Courtyard and Intercontinental brands.
In the Dominican Republic the group operates a hotel near the airport, serving the Dominican capital.
“What has motivated us to come to the Dominican Republic is the country’s legal framework regarding foreign investment and the characteristics of Santo Domingo, a thriving city that is becoming more developed day by day. As an investment group in the hotel sector we want to participate in the country’s economic activities, in the development of the city and in the creation of jobs,” said Roger Alfaro, Director of Operations for “Real Hotel.” Investors indicated that the hotel will be ready in two years.
