Salamander Opens a Second Hotel in the Dominican Republic

The US-based Salamander Hotels & Resorts began running the Sanctuary Resort & Spa located in Cap Cana, as of this past October 1.  The resort, consisting of villas, apartments, a marina and golf course, is situated in Punta Cana, on the country’s easternmost region.  The project features 176 beachfront rooms (72 fifty-five-square-meter junior suites), all overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The hotel also offers a 510-square-meter suite, and the Island Suite, built on its very own island.  The new facility also offers five gourmet restaurants, five bars, a world-class spa, access to the Punta Espada golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, and a 1700 square-meter convention center.

It is the second hotel in Cap Cana run by the Salamander Company.  The other facility is the Fishing Lodge Cap Cana Salamander Marina & Beach Resort.  This last hotel offers 299 villas and apartments, four restaurants, three bars and four swimming pools.  In addition, access to the Punta Espada golf course, a marina, and a yacht rental facility for those interested in deep-sea fishing or in a recreational boat ride.  These two facilities do not offer all-inclusive packages, which is the norm in most Punta Cana resorts.

The Sanctuary Fishing Lodge is part of the  Salamander Caribbean Collection, to be completed in 2012 with the Ocean Club Boutique Hotel, a facility that will offer 92 rooms, all overlooking the Cap Cana Marina.

The “Corporacion Hotelera Internacional DR S.A. (CHI) – owner of both hotels – upon announcing its agreement with Salamander announced that all existing contracts, on-going negotiations and current reservations are not affected with the overall change. CHI is a Spanish-based organization headed by Juan Pelayo.  It owns and develops luxury hotel facilities.

Salamander headquarters are located in the state of Virginia. It is currently managing  the Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort in Tampa, Florida, home of the PGA Tour Transitions Championship and the LPGA Tour Legends Open Championship.  Also, the Woodlands Inn in Charleston, South Carolina, and the Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, an equestrian theme resort, located in Washington, D.C.
