The Russian airline will being direct flights from Russia to Punta Cana, beginning November 5. Currently the Russian airliners Transaero and Aeroflot are travelling to the Punta Cana region, one of the Caribbean’s most important tourism destinations. During the January-August period, the number of Russian tourist arrivals to the Dominican Republic grew by 61%. In recent months, some 67,000 Russian tourists travelled to the Punta Cana region. ORENAIR will begin flights to the Dominican Republic for the first time, between Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk, Russia, to Punta Cana. The flights are operated by Pegas Tours.
Beginning in November flights will be scheduled every 10 days. There will be two weekly flights during the winter months. In total, some 55 flights are scheduled during the upcoming season. The airline indicated that it is coordinating more flights for the summer 2012 season.
ORENAIR will use a Boeing 777-200 aircraft, with capacity for 364 passengers. Flights will depart from the Tolmachevo Airport, near Novosibirsk in Siberia; from Sheremetyevo, in Moscow – Oblast, and from Koltsovo, in Yekaterinburg.
The Dominican Deputy Minister for International Promotion, Magaly Toribio, and Galyna Lysenko, Director of the Tourism Promotion Office of the Ministry of Tourism in Russia, participated in the annual tourism fair in Moscow where they made the announcements.
Ms. Toribio also reported on upcoming flights between Kiev and Punta Cana, by the airliner Aerosvit. She also said that Tourism authorities from both countries are working on negotiations that will guarantee that by the summer of 2012 Russians will be travelling to the north coast city of Puerto Plata.
