Fifth Dominican Cigar Festival to be Held in February

The Dominican Republic’s annual “Cigar Festival,” also known as the Procigar Festival, is scheduled to take place from February 19-24, 2012.  The Dominican Republic is currently the world’s leading producer of cigars.  The festival is scheduled to take place in the cities of Santiago, in the country’s central region, and in La Romana, a Mecca for golf lovers, situated in the country’s eastern region.  Currently, the Dominican Republic is considered to be the world’s leading producer of tobacco.  The first part of this fifth festival will be held in La Romana from February 19-21, in Casa de Campo, one of the Caribbean’s foremost tourism resorts.  From February 21-24 the Festival will be held in Santiago, the country’s second largest city, at the Gran Almirante Hotel, the city’s most important and fashionable hotel.  In attendance will be representatives from the most important American and European tobacco companies.  For more information, please visit www.procigar.org.

Participants this time around will be able to participate in a walk through a local rain forest, a golf tournament in one of Casa de Campos’ most important links, take a tour through the Brugal rum factory in Puerto Plata, and be able to enjoy a catamaran ride and rafting in the mountain town ofJarabacoa.

Participants can also participate in the tours that will take visitors through the cigar factories that make some of the world’s most famous cigar brands, such as: Davidoff, Partagas, H. Upmann, Macanudo, Zino, Leon Jimenes, Romeo y Julieta, Fonseca, Avo, Juan Clemente, La Aurora, Griffin’s, Montecristo, Credit and Don Diego.

In Santiago, visitors will also enjoy bits and pieces of Dominican culture through its music and art.  In La Romana, golf lovers will be able to play in the world-famous golf course “Teeth of the Dog”, one of the world’s top 50 golf courses.

Santiago, the Dominican Republic’s largest city, is the center of the Dominican tobacco culture and the place where some of the world’s most famous cigar brands are produced. Santiago is, without a doubt, the Cigar Capital of the Caribbean.
