Riu Chain of Hotels To Open New Facility in Punta Cana

To celebrate its 20th anniversary in the Dominican Republic, the Spanish Riu Hotels & Resorts chain will open its fifth facility in the Punta Cana region, and its third Riu Palace brand hotel. The arrival of the hotel chain to the Dominican Republic marked its international expansion.

The opening of the Riu Palace Bavaro is scheduled for December this year. The all-inclusive, 610-room facility also features 12 villas, four swimming pools and a 1,200 square-meter convention center.

In 1991 the Spanish chain of the Riu Taino, its first resort outside of Spain.  Now, with this latest addition to its international operations, the Riu Palace Bavaro will bring to 34 the number of hotel facilities the Spanish chain currently operates in the Americas.

In the Dominican Republic, the Riu hotel chain operates the Club Hotel Riu Bachata, the Club Hotel Riu Merengue and the Club Hotel Riu Mambo, all situated in Puerto Plata, on the country’s north coast.  In Punta Cana, in the country’s easternmost region, the chain currently operates the Club Hotel Riu Bambú, the Hotel Riu Naiboa, the Hotel Riu Palace Macao and the Riu Palace Punta Cana.

Today, the Spanish chain operates 102 hotels in Florida, Mexico, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Jamaica, Aruba, Cape Verde, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.

Riu Hotels & Resorts partnered in 1993 with Touristik Union International (TUI), the largest German tour operator in Europe.
