Five Hotels in the DR Nominated for World Travel Awards 2011

Five hotels in the Dominican Republic were recently nominated for the World Travel Awards 2011 in the following categories:  Ecological Hotels; Boutique Hotels; Best All- Inclusive Resort and Resort Casino Leader in the Caribbean.

The country has also been nominated as “Leading Cruise Destination” and as “Leader of Sports Tourism in the Caribbean.”  The Dominican Republic currently offers three of the Caribbean’s most important cruise ship ports. Santo Domingo (the capital city), La Romana (on the country’s eastern region) and Cayo Levantado, in the Bay of Samana (on the northeast corner of the island) are currently considered to be some of the leading ports in the Caribbean.  The winners in each of these categories will be announced on October 7 at the Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort & Private Island, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The DR nominees are the following:  the Puntacana Resort & Club, for the third consecutive year, as a Caribbean Green Hotel; the Catalonia Bavaro Resort Punta Cana, as the Caribbean’s Leading Boutique Resort; the Barceló Bavaro Beach Resort, as the Caribbean Leader in Casino Resort; the Club Med Punta Cana, as the Best Caribbean Family Resort; and the Sivory Punta Cana as the Leader in Caribbean Resorts.

The nominees are selected by a panel of experts, including travel agents, throughout the world who cast their votes online.  Those with the most votes are declared winners. The process is audited in order to ensure its validity. Getting on this prestigious list is a distinction coveted by many in the business.

The World Travel Awards, which began in 1993, is one of the most recognized awards in the international tourism business.  The awards ceremony is scheduled for November 29 in Doha, Qatar.
