Access Dominican Republic, a tourism-oriented publication, launched its on-line edition this past July 12 (www.accessdr.com). This is the first on-line Dominican news outlet dedicated exclusively to tourism-related news. The weekly publication is available in seven languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian and Russian. Target audiences include tour operators, travel agents, journalists and other industry professionals. Originally launched as a print publication in July 2009, it is owned by CICOM and Equidatos.
Participants in the launching ceremony included President Leonel Fernandez, the editor of Access Dominican Republic, Manuel Quiterio Cedeño, the Ministers of Tourism and the Environment, Francisco Javier Garcia and Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal, respectively, and representatives of important tourism-related industries.
The outlet is a member of the Dominican Tourism Press Association.
CICOM’s “Tourism Summary”, began circulation in 1988. In 1996 the summary received the “Newsworthy” Award, issued by the Caribbean Association of Hotels and Tourism, and in 2008 was awarded the National Journalism Award for Tourism, issued by the Dominican Press Association of Tourism.
