Santo Domingo’s Jazz Festival 2011, the most important event of its kind to be held in the Dominican Republic’s capital city, will take place from June 2 to July 28, at Casa de Teatro, in the city’s Colonial Zone.
Eight internationally renowned jazz groups (from the United States, Spain, Martinique, Colombia and the Dominican Republic) will participate in this, the festival’s 12th edition.
Casa de Teatro, where the festival takes place, is situated in a 16th century colonial home situated in downtown Santo Domingo. For many, Casa de Teatro is the city’s most important cultural center, where artists from all walks of life come together to express their talent – be it through music, the plastic arts, theater, or any other artistic manifestation. It is also the proper place to promote the “music of the masters” in the Dominican capital. In this particular jazz festival, rather than holding it in a two or three-day time frame, one particular jazz group is presented every Thursday, at 9 p.m., during the months of June and July.
